Guys, if you are fans of Rick Owen or Ann Demeulemeester you’ll be very excited to hear Colombian-born, Paris-based designer Haider Ackermann has began to expand his talent into menswear. He will be previewing his men’s pieces on June 16th at the Pitti W Trade Show in Florence, Italy. Ackermann is known for his highly conceptual womenswear. His edgy, leather-clad designs are ultra cool and sexy–dressing actresses like Tilda Swinton. It is always interesting to see a designer who has strictly worked in womenswear begin to create looks for men. At this point in Ackermann’s budding career this could be a beneficial move. The designer told WWD that designing menswear has been a challenge for him because he was designing for himself as the customer, “Women’s wear is something I fantasize, but with men’s wear, you are comparing it to yourself. I am the consumer.” Do you think Haider Ackermann can pull off a successful menswear collection? Check out some of his previous woman’s runway looks from STYLE.com:
