Valentino appeals to the ‘Twilight generation’

Haute couture for the girly vampire-lovers!  While Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli’s version of the couture house is far from the ideals set out by Valentino himself, it is certainly getting the attention of the young and discriminating.  With the twenty-nothings out in numbers at the fall couture collection show, aptly named The Dark Side of First Love, the couture house illustrated a youthful innocence with an all-too-familiar 19th century vibe. Lace, bows, short skirts, sparkly materials, and one model literally encageged in her wardrobe…if romantic melodrama were a couture collection, this would be it.  Chiuri and Piccioli may be going too far on the opposite spectrum to appease their younger audience, this doesn’t feel Valentino at all.  Kitten heels, really?
