Castello di Amorosa hosts the 5th Annual Midsummer Medieval Festival

This weekend, in the Napa Valley, Amici Del Barone Wine Club members (translated Friends of the Baron) and notable guests were invited to an exclusive soiree at the acclaimed Castello di Amorosa which translates to “Castle of Love”. It was only appropriate to cover this magical event at the castle, as fantasy and fairytales are the trendy themes for recent summer film releases including: Snow White and the Huntsman, Brave, and Mirror Mirror.

Castello di Amorosa has been the venue for popular films including: “Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo” starring comedian, Rob Schneider. Additional famous faces who have enjoyed the castle, winery and magnificent view include: Madame Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor George Pataki, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Jon Bon Jovi, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Clint Black, Sir James Galway, Matt LeBlanc and Pierce Brosnan. The Castle, styled in 13th Century Tuscan architecture, is fit for a Princess or King, with its working winery Castello di Amorosa, 107 rooms, wine caves, a drawbridge, a dungeon, a torture chamber, stables and even a real moat!

The event began with interactive activities including: medieval dancing lessons, archery, musical performances, bocce ball tournaments, catapulting, sword fighting, jousting tournaments, wheel of fortune games, wool spinning/weaving, horse shoe tossing games, and fortune telling. All activities and performances were centered around the Castello’s gorgeous Lake Mario. Armor worn by the gladiator performers, were actually authentic steel-plated costumes.

After the games ceased, the lavish feast began with a speech by President of Castello di Amorosa, Georg Salzner. The medieval styled dinner celebration was held in the Courtyard. Musical performances continued throughout the evening, along with sword fighting and fire twirling. Wine from the Castello di Amorosa was served with each of the three traditional medieval courses. Guests told Fashion News Live their elaborate costumes were specially designed or rented for this Midsummer Medieval Festival celebration at the Castle of Love.
