Another Fashion Brand Expands its Business to China

Luxury fashion design brand Stella McCartney opened a new retail boutique in Shanghai, China this week.

English fashion designer Stella McCartney, known for her rock star lifestyle and for creating exclusive looks for the Royals and Olympians, has embarked upon a new project, preparing for her latest store launch. Launching lines in China, this summer, appears to be a trend, with other famous names such as Marc Jacobs and Romeo Gigli launching collections in East Asia.

It is the first ever freestanding store, in China, for the English designer. It is located at the Reel Mall on Nanjing Road. The layout of the store includes: “glazed, ceramic tile (exterior store walls), an oak parquet floor in a herringbone pattern and brass fixtures” (WWD).

Two more retail stores are scheduled to open within the next year in Asia for this mega-luxury brand. Additionally, this year, her line Stella McCartney Kids will be featured in a Shanghai shop-in-shop (hipster lingo for branded shops within a retailer). Moreover, executives at Stella McCartney have disclosed their strategy to expand retail presence in China as well as in other parts of the World. Although, Lane Crawford is Stella McCartney’s distributor in Hong Kong, Stella McCartney is taking her distribution in-house for these new Chinese retail shops.
