Jean Paul Gaultier RTW Spring 2013

Gaultier presented a new take on some classic 80’s styles and truly captured the essence of the disco floor with his ready to wear spring 2013 line.

The beautifully presented collection was an instant hit with fabulous music matching the unique and memorable designs.

“This is an homage to all the pop stars of the Eighties who have influenced fashion and my fashion with their look. Any similarity with real events or characters is purely no coincidental.”

In the beginning of the show hairstyle and looks after Grace Jones were done with unique jumpsuits and powerful jackets.  Continuing with the look, pinstripes and languid pants were introduced with inspiration from Annie Lennox.

No 80’s tribute collection would be complete without a Madonna showcase where Gaultier used his cage style corsets to set the mood with a new take on cone bras.

Utilizing some inspiration from the far east, kimonos and floral print jumpsuits worked their way into the showcase.  To cover the hippie era inside of the 80’s Gaultier used denim as his medium and make sequenced pants and dresses.

Overall the collection was strong, and at times was fairly over powering.  The music supported the style as well as the attention to detail that the creative team took into the designs of the collection.  Jean Paul’s ready to wear 2013 collection was as unique as it was shocking, and with no doubt was an honorable tribute to those stars of the 1980’s.
