General Idea Runway – Fall 2011

photos courtesy of mbfashionweek.com

Designer: General Idea by Bumsuk Choi

About: Choi launched his menswear label back in 2004 and pulls inspiration from his international discoveries and sudden urges to innovate trend.

Accessories: Toggle buttons, Mountain boots, Knee high socks, Oversized fedora hats, Snoods

Color Palette: Red, Orange, Navy, Yellow, Black, Grey

Thoughts: The collection had a very rugged, mountain man feel to it. Full of bright colors and various textures and styles, this men’s collection is quite different from what we saw at the men’s runway shows in Europe a few weeks ago. My favorite piece was the grey cable knit sweater in the first image. Toggle buttons are also a key trend in menswear for the upcoming fall season.

What do all our male readers think about these looks?? Is the runway the best place this General Idea collection belongs?

Designer: Eric Kim

Season: Fall 2011

Color Palette: black, crimson, grey

Accessories: scarves, combat boots, leather backpacks, gloves.

Personal thoughts: Eric Kim’s alternative men’s collection as a whole worked well together. Each piece was very versatile and could be easily interchanged to make a combination of looks. I agreed with his choice in using a crimson leather jacket as his stand-out piece. It seems to be the hot new color for Fall 11.

What is your opinion of Mik Cire Fall 2011???

Designer: Vivienne Tam

About: “Through her innovative explorations of color, texture and cut, Vivienne offers women inspiration in the wearing.  Constantly searching for new themes in Chinese art, history and culture, Vivienne explores sources that range from Ming dynasty bird and flower painting to Chinese contemporary art, from terracotta warriors to Red Guards, from mountain landscapes to the flying Bodhisattvas of Dunhuang.”

Season: Fall 2011

Color Palette: neutrals. black, grey, white, navy, crimson

Personal thoughts: I could definitely sense Asian influence in Vivienne Tam’s Fall 2011 collection, which allowed it to stand out from other shows. I loved the heavy detail in the crocheted garments and oriental dress. There was also a nice cohesiveness to the collection that helped unify it as a whole.

Rate: I give this collection a 8/10.

MBFW F/W 11: Patricia Field’s Valentine’s Day Ball

Love, or should I say lust, is in the air! Patricia Field, New York designer and stylist from Sex and the City, Ugly Betty, Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Devil Wears Prada, kicked off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Valentine’s Day and her birthday with an extravagant Valentine’s Day Ball.  She has always been known for throwing fabulous parties that capture the “imagination and the energy of the dream of New York” and last night’s ball co-hosted by Susanne Bartsch and Kelly Coutrone did not disappoint!

Hundreds of people, from socialites to Hollywood stars, sipped on cocktails and danced the night away to DJ Cassidy. The ball was costume themed and wow did the guests bring it!!! The legendary Patricia Field wore a glamorous red dress that sparkled head-to-toe and an orange fur poncho. When our team asked her plans for the future she responded, “I’m looking forward to one day at a time and that’s it. I don’t look for the future. I don’t ask for the future. I just get on my surfboard and I ride. No expectations.”

Others busted out their platinum blonde wigs, 5 ft horns and platform shoes. Check out how fashion week celebrates V-day.
