Carolina Herrera – Fall 2011 NYFW

Key Pieces: velvet jackets, tailored pants, tailored dresses, long extravagant dresses, floor-length skirts

Accessories: skinny belts, fur neckwear, velvet sash belts, lace-up velvet heels, suede gloves, sequins

Hair/Makeup: sleek, pulled back hair with dramatic lips

Color Palette: orange, turquoise, grey, deep red, brown, amethyst, black, sky blue

Thoughts: This collection from longtime designer Carolina Herrera was a questionable one. I felt as though there was too much going on with her collection this season. I did however love the velvet accents on the belts and her take on suede gloves.

MBFW: Custo Barcelona Fall 2011

images courtesy of mbfashionweek.com

Designer: Custo Barcelona

Season: Fall 2011

Colors/Textures: Bright meets subtle. From neon green to neutral beige, we saw it all at the Custo show last night! Custo uses a lot of wool fabric this season. The collection is rich in thick prints and bold fringe.

My Personal Thoughts: Custo Barcelona is a very talented designer. However, I feel like his fall 2011 collection was made for runway and not your typical everyday wear. I would probably take one or two pieces from each look and create a wearable outfit.

Rating: I give the Custo Fall 2011 Runway show a 6/10.

Erickson Beamon at Milk Studios – NYFW 2011

Last night I got the chance to check out some of the shows at the Milk Studios, one of which was the Erickson Beamon jewelry presentation. The designer used beautiful visuals to present his collection of jewels. Clearly inspired by the Black Swan film, he had a violinist and an opera singer performing with ballerinas gracefully moving to music composed by Clint Mansell, the composer from the film. The jewelry was extremely gorgeous and extravagant and the crowd seemed to be throughly impressed with the collection.

Do you love it or do you love it?!

MBFW F/W 11: Zang Toi w/ guest appearance by Jill Zarin

One would probably mistake Zang Toi‘s newest collection for a ballroom vision of cinderella and her prince due in part to extravagant shoulder piece gowns and a whimsical music backdrop. Sticking with a traditionally safe fall color scheme, Toi wonderfully pulls off standout pieces using warm shades of green, camel, and grey. Attracting much attention, mostly for the catwalk debut of real housewives star Jill Zarin, Toi’s show was one of the most applauded this season.

When I asked Zarin how it feels to be the face of the Toi show this season she replied, “It’s absolutely amazing! I feel like it’s my wedding day all over again. I want to do it again!”

I give credit to Toi for willing to stick with his tried and true over exaggerated details such as extra large bow ties, tall-standing mandarin collars, wide wingspan fur scarves and gem/beaded-embellished necklines. While the men pieces were few and not as emphasized, the looks presented maintain Toi’s soft, gentle design style keeping with fitted velvet suits with richly patterned shirts.

Romantic, magical, deeply vivid.  Maybe I was watching Cinderella dance after all!
