Cleverly titled “Into the Wild” designer Nicholas Kunz and her brother and business partner Christopher Kunz have announced that their new collection is officially available on their website. The designer duo grew up in Arizona and spent a lot of time outdoors fishing and camping, which served as inspiration for this collection. After living in NYC for several years, the brother and sister duo decided to look for land in upstate New York where they could bring their dog (yes the dog that ALWAYS comes out on the runway with the duo after each show) and enjoy their love of outdoor sports. The search for the ideal cabin, surrounded by streams for fishing and forests for hunting, is what served as the main source of inspiration for their fall collection. Nicholas explains, “For our fall collection, I was inspired by the woods and rustic living; the survival instinct and going back to primitive ways. The fall colors of the forest are reflected in the palette and overall aesthetic and I used a lot of texture and incorporated Navajo inspired prints. Think log homes, gypsies, stone fireplaces, owls, camping and migration.” Even movies like The Wilderness Family, A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall and Into the Wild inspired the designers.
With a collection filled with rich corduroys, hunter green silk velvet, and even butter-soft lambskin, these items remind you of the ideal camping trip, camping in style. Some key items from the collection include chunky hand-knit cable sweaters with hand knotted leather buttons, tiered ruffle skirts that serve as both a dress and skirt and have multifunctional details. This collection is the epitome of a stylish outdoor experience. Nicholas even collaborated with Vintage Shoe Co. and created limited edition boots seen on the runway for both men and women.
Since Nicholas K’s launch in fall of 2003, the brother and sister duo have continued to offer a downtown city edge to their customers. With exceptional trademark traditional quality, designs with a modern twist, the brand is determined to offer unique products but products that will still remain wardrobe staple pieces. Nicholas K has even been inducted as members of the CFDA, a huge achievement for the brand.
**The Nicholas K spring 2012 collection will be showing at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Thursday September 9 at 9 am. This marks the third consecutive time the brand will kick on MBFW. **
There is a charming story about Véronique de la Cruz, who has been creating and mixing bathing suits ever since she was a child. Growing up on the island of Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean, the bathing suit culture made going to the beach very much like going to a party. No one wanted to be seen in the same suit twice. So she and her cousin saved their money to but new suits and mixed and matched so it would seem as if they had many. Very creative and definitely fashion inspired at a young age.
Her island upbringing and love for fashion are what makes her line so charming, yet very sexy.
Véronique de la Cruz and Aquarella have brought a fresh hot look that most definitely will be seen at beaches not only up and down the French Caribbean but all the hot fashionable spots of the world. Aquarella definitely sizzles.
Sonia Vera’s 2012 swim wear line is aesthetically pleasing, not just with the beautiful cuts of the suits, but with the colors she uses in the line.
“I want to build a brand that is as timeless as the beauties that inspire it”, she has said, and it looks as if she has done so.
Sonia Vera has a glamorous, playful line that is sure to be the hot buzz of summer 2012. Well done!
